“Movie” Magic provided the audience with a selection of numbers that have been very popular over the years, mainly from movies. The Concert opened with The Imperial March from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, regarded as the anthem of the Galactic Empire. The first half also included a medley of five tunes from Great Film Themes such as Around the World in Eighty Days from the movie of the same name and The Harry Lyme Theme from the 1949 movie The Third Man. Live and Let Die, from the James Bond movie, featured Jou McDougall on soprano cornet. The first half closed with the stirring march Aces High.

The Concert resumed after interval with the theme music from the movie The Magnificent Seven. The Braveheart Suite from Mel Gibson’s epic movie Braveheart followed. The Man from Snowy River certainly had audience appeal, as did the theme music from the movie Jurassic Park. The second half ended with a delightful medley of tunes from Walt Disney movies titled A Disney Fantasy. In all, thirteen numbers were presented to a mainly seniors audience of about one hundred.

Movie Magic was the first concert for the band’s new musical director, David Thompson. David was greeted warm applause when introduced to the audience, while the band responded well to his baton.
